Joining the educational system of charming communities in the heart of the jungle
I feel like we are building trust with the students we meet. I know we treat them differently then their usual teachers do, this might cause confusion, but we see it is worth it. Working in small groups and creating dialogue with the kids creates a different experience and offers the students a sense of success. To us too!
Nofar ben Isaac, Volunteer at Project TEN Durban 2020
I came to Project TEN because I wanted to volunteer in Africa. I saw a very exciting movie that made me look for volunteer programs. I chose TEN because it suited me exactly to the amount of time and budget and I especially liked working with the community and participating in volunteer work that really meets the needs of the community. Through volunteering, I realized the immense importance of education through informal methods and creativity education. I succeeded with my project partner, Inbar, to talk about super complex topics in easy, fun and instructive forms. The teachers along with the students in my opinion, learned a lot "
Gal Shvaitzer, Be'er Sheva: May 2019 delegation to Uganda,
This trip was of great intensity. It taught me what sharing is, openness to others, love and acceptance of difference means. It made me understand that we can all give something, and giving does not necessarily mean something material; a smile, a dance, my time, can be more than enough. Gift and Love are the key words of this trip and they have been given in both directions. Thank you Project TEN, B-Lev and Relev to have allowed us to live this unique experience, humanly and emotionaly speaking. Thank you for giving us the chance to engrave these memories in us forever.
Keren, Paris: May delegation to South Africa
There is a big gap on the island. The quiet and beauty everywhere compared to the chaos and the conditions in the refugee camp. Its so sad, frustrating and makes me angry. I am so happy i am here if not to help so at least to try. and to be able to go back home and tell the stories of the refugees here, to make people understand how bad their situation is and make others come too.
Sissi, volunteer at Project TEN Samos, Greece, February 2020
Beginning of May, Winneba, Ghana. The volunteers just arrived to Books and Things, this is the first time in which we meet the kids and this is exemplified by their suspicious eyes, gazing at us. During three months these eyes will be directed to books, games and art, and will be filled with something else, unfiltered, pure joy. It took a lot of challenges, mistakes, and leaving my comfort zone. At the end of the day, all the hard work, produced a wide smile every day at 13:30 in the afternoon when we opened Books and Things in Ghana, and it was worth traveling 7220 km to see it.
Gilad Ben Moshe, Israel: Volunteered in the May cohort to Ghana
I have been a coordinator in Project TEN for over a year in Uganda, and besides the amazing sensation of feeling at home in such a lovely country, I have mostly been privileged to learn. Also about myself, how to live far away, how to work under unfamiliar conditions and more. But mostly I learned how I do not have all of the answers and I have so much more to learn from the local population than I have to teach."
תום רוזנטל: Alumni and coordinator in Uganda
I came to Pluma Hidalgo, the town where Project TEN is located in Mexico, almost two years ago. I arrived as a volunteer for a period of three months and fell in love with the place, the volunteering and the people. I fell in love so much that three months after volunteering ended, I returned to visit here as well. When I got the opportunity to return to the project as an education coordinator, I took it with love. Knowing that something small of the things we do here is making some positive change in another person's life doing well in body and mind. As coordinators, we go through many processes here, whether on the professional or personal level. Every day you learn something new, from the volunteers, the children and yourself. This experience shapes us in many ways and promotes us to be better. "
Shira Peretz: Alumni and former Coordinator in Mexico
Almost every new thing we teach the kids they learn instantly! We see them repeat it in class, during break and even on the way home from school. They love learning and they enjoy and get excited from every new thing we bring. It makes me so motivated to think of new original and creative ideas every day. If it's great games, song, art or just discussion topics, I hope this curiosity stays with these awesome kids their whole life.
